You are about to kill the President of the United States. You obviously have a million things to worry about. Will your plan work? What happens if they figure you out? What if the president is late? What’s your exit route? Should you use a weapon with a wooden grip or with an ivory handle?
Wait… what?
Yes, you’ve read that right. At least for Charles Guiteau, the assassin of President James A. Garfield, that was a dilemma. A wooden grip or an ivory handle? (the article continues after the ad)
While buying his weapon at O’Meara’s store in Washington, Guiteau chose a .442 caliber British Bulldog revolver with an ivory handle because… he thought it would look good in a museum exhibit after the assassination!
But the guy had bad luck. The revolver has since been lost and its whereabouts are unknown (the one in the featured picture is not the actual pistol, it’s just the same model).
