Can you imagine living in a world without tv advertising? It’s strange, right? Well, that was the case before 1941.
The first TV spot ever was aired in the US on July 1, 1941 at 2.29 in the afternoon. It was broadcasted by WNBT, a station that belonged to NBC and was shown before the baseball game between Brooklyn Dodgers and the Philadelphia Phillies.
It was a 10 second spot which showed a US map with a BULOVA watch in the middle. In the spot, there was also a man’s voice, which informed viewers that “America runs in BULOVA time”. The cost of the advertising was just $9.00. Here it is: (the article continues after the ad)
