Nintendo Was Not Always A Video Game Company

Your favorite video game company was not always a video game company. In fact, for the first 74 of its existence, Nintendo had nothing to do with video games whatsoever.

Nintendo was invented in 1889 and up until 1963 it was solely a playing cards manudacturer. In 1969 the company expanded into games (with its main operation still being playing cards though) and it wasn’t until 1975 that Nintendo developed its first video game system in cooperation with Mitsubishi Electric.

To put that into perspective, Nintendo has been producing cards for at least twice the time it has been producing video games.
