This Is Why Pirates Wore Eye Patches

When we think of a pirate, i guess each and everyone of us would think of a man wearing an eye patch, right? But have you ever wondered why did they wear them?

Contrary to popular belief, pirates didn’t wear an eye patch to cover their missing eye (not everyone could be missing an eye after all). The real reason was so they could fight in the dark!

If you think of a typical pirate fight, it involved pirates fighting both in the deck and under the deck. In order to quickly adapt to low light conditions and be able to fight downstairs, the pirates were just swapping over the eye patch form one eye to another. Because the eye that was already covered with the eye patch was used to low light conditions, they were able to instantly continue their fight!
