What’s Up With Sylvester Stallone’s Lower Left Cheek?

The last time we had a similar article on I’m A Useless Info Junkie, it was about David Bowie’s eyes and we explained why they appeared to be of different color – one brown and one blue.

Today, we look at yet another artist with a distinct facial feature – Sylvester Stallone’s lower left cheek. What’s the deal there? I mean, why does it look like it’s somehow paralyzed?

Let’s find out. (the article continues after the ad)

Well, some parts of Stallone’s face do look like they are paralyzed because they actually are.  It was all caused by a birthing accident: because his mother suffered some complications during labor, the obstetrician was forced to use two pairs of forceps (tongs) in order to pull out the baby. Due to misuse, the doctor accidentally severed some nerves and caused paralysis in the lower left side of Stallone’s face, giving him a drooping lower lip and a rather snarling look:

The unfortunate accident also affected his chin, tongue and lips and this is the reason why Stallone has a slightly slurred speech. Of course, this speech impediment, coupled with his thick accent is now part of Stallone’s identity, making the famous actor recognizable by his voice alone.

So, now you know!
