Early East African tribes mixed up coffee berries with animal fat and turned it into an energy-packed snack. By grinding and mixing the beans with goat fat they were creating small round spheres of energy snacks that were considered a delicacy during those times.
The consumption of coffee as a drink started sometime around 1,000 A.D. in the Arabian Peninsula.
