I know, i know… the real question we all want to know the answer to is how did Joker get his scars. But because there’s no true origin of our favorite villain’s distinctive facial characteristic (he always tells a different story), let’s just focus on the title of this post.

For both Franck Ribéry and Carlos Tevez, the first thing you’ll notice when you see them, besides their unparalleled football skills of course, is their permanent scars. But have you ever wondered how did they get them?

The Bayern Munich star has spoken publicly about his scar and the trauma it caused during an emotional interview with Canal+ Sport.

When he was just two years old, Ribéry suffered a serious head wound during a car accident in his hometown of Boulogne-sur-Mer, France. The car his family was driving collided with a lorry and young Ribéry, who was sitting in the back seat without wearing a seatbelt, crashed through the vehicle’s windshield. The Frenchman was rushed to the hospital and got 100 stitches but this left him with a permanent scar on his face.

In his interview, Ribéry explains how difficult it was for him to grow up with this scar as people would always point and stare at him, often saying how “ugly” it was. But the scar not only it didn’t stop him, but it actually motivated him:

“They [the scars] gave me character and this strength. Because, when you are a child and you have a scar like this, it’s not easy. The way people see you, the comments – my family suffered for this. But I never went to a corner and cried, despite suffering. In a certain way this accident helped me. As a child, it motivated me.” (the article continues after the ad)

Former Manchester United, Manchester City and Juventus superstar Carlos Tevez, has a noticeable burn that runs from his right ear all the way down to his chest.

Tevez got this burn mark as a child when he was accidentally scalded with boiling water. This incident caused third-degree burns and kept him hospitalized for two months. Interestingly, when he joined Boca Juniors at the aged of 17 years old, the club offered him to pay for a cosmetic surgery but Tevez declined, stating that the burn scar was a part of who he was in the past and who he is today.

In his own words, “everything happens for a reason”.
