You Will Never Break A Pinky Swear Again After Knowing Its Origin

When two people make a promise to each other a cute, little way of sealing that promise is by entwining their pinkies, in what is known as a pinky swear. But have you ever wondered why?

Well, we certainly did and as it turns out, our beloved pinky swear has a dark past.

The pinky swear was originated in Japan by Yakuza, the Japanese mafia. It was the highest of all promises and meant that, if you broke the oath, the wronged party could cut off your pinky. 

Ouch.

The Japanese origin of the pinky swear is evident in anime films, known as yubikiri or “finger cut off.”
