Each day, 3,000 Euros (more than a million per year) are being tossed into one of Rome’s most famous tourist attractions, the wonderful Trevi Fountain. So, have you ever wondered what happens to those money?
Well, thank God, they are used to help those in need.
In 2006, Charity Caritas, announced its plans to to open up a supermarket for the city’s poor. Families in need were given a top-up card by their council which they can swap for basic food items at the supermarket in central Rome. Bravo Rome! It goes without saying that taking money from the fountain is illegal but many raiders steal money from the fountain daily.
