5. THE OLDEST PAIR OF JEANS
Discovered in 1997 and auctioned for $60,000 in 2005, this is the oldest pair of jeans ever to be found. It was made in Levi Strauss & Co. 501 Jeans about 120 years ago.
4. RIVETS MAKE JEANS STRONGER
Rivets are used on jeans so that your pockets are stronger. Initially rivets were placed on all pockets but soon people started complaining that the back pockets were scratching the chairs. That’s why we now only have rivets on our front pockets.
3. WHY INDIGO BLUE?
Jeans were first colored with indigo because the darker the color is, the better it hides the dirt.
2. MALE & FEMALE ZIPPERS
Men’s and women’s zippers are positioned on opposite sides. This is because back in the day zippers were used by the wealthy. Wealthy or not though, men dressed themselves and it was assumed that they were right-handed. So zippers and buttons were designed for ease while dressing one’s self. In contrast, wealthy women were dressed by their maids. Therefore, the zippers were positioned on the opposite side so that are operated by a right-handed person when facing another. This is also why, Men’s Clothes Have Buttons On The Right While Women’s Clothes Have Buttons On The Left.
