Taj Mahal, one of the New 7 Wonders of the world, was actually designed so that, in the event of a collapse, everything would fall away from tomb.
This is why the 130-foot tall minarets were strategically tilted and placed at the 4 corners of the platform and not near the tomb. During the 17th century, it wasn’t uncommon for massive architectural structures to fall victim of their own weight. In the fear of this happening to Taj Mahal, chief architect Ustad Ahmad Lahauri tilted the towers slightly so that they would fall away from the crypt of Mumtaz Mahal, thus preventing the grave from incurring any damages.
