Myth Or Fact: Is Walt Disney Frozen?

You’ve probably heard the story a thousand times by now: Walt Disney is cryogenically frozen so he can be brought back to life when we have the technology to do so. But is it true? Is Walt Disney actually frozen?

Well, as it turns out, this is just an urban legend.

Died in 1966, due to the The Part Of Disney’s Story They Don’t Want You To Know, Walt Disney was cremated two days later. In an interview to Daily Mail, Diane Disney Miller, Walt Disney’s daughter told reporter Jennifer Madison that part of the reason for opening the Walt Disney Family Museum is because they wanted to end some of the ridiculous rumours about her father’s life. One of them was the cryogenic frozen myth. “Other little kids would say to my kids,’My mother said your grandfather was anti-Semitic’ or ‘Your grandfather is frozen, isn’t he?’ And I couldn’t let that stand.” Disney Miller said. But how did the myth start?

It is believed that the cryogenically frozen story started when Bob Nelson, the president of the California Cryogenics Society, said in a 1972 interview in the Los Angeles Times that “Walt Disney wanted to be frozen”. Even though we don’t know if this is true or not, because Disney didn’t state in his will that he wanted to be frozen, his family proceeded with the cremation.

Bonus fact: The first human to enter cryonic suspension was Dr. James Bedford, on 12th January 1967. Bedford was 73 at the time of his death. His body is stored at Alcor Life Extension Foundation in Arizona, USA.
